L.A. Noire: The Wait Is Over

4 Comments 16 May 2011

L.A. Noire may be the epitome of cool in video gaming. From the opening trailer, it seems as if Rockstar has emulated the best of Francis Ford Copolla and Martin Scorsese. Now, if this game has found a way to infuse Quentin Tarantino’s badassery, well, we won’t be putting down the controller for quite some time.

We especially like the way the trailer starts off. It’s engaging; it reminds us of our winters in the city. The car headlights warming the roads, the snow gently falling amidst the skyscrapers, and music fit for a nice glass of scotch and a cigar. Rockstar is maturing.

Rockstar’s 2010 release, Red Dead Redemption, showed us that they can create a character we can empathize with. Sure, running around the streets of Liberty City was a riot, but riding the Texas dirt trails as John Marston brought a whole new level of appreciation for game design.

If Rockstar can not only duplicate their previous success, but can build upon it another character worth living vicariously through, this may just be the game we talk about another six months from now.

L.A. Noire releases tonight (May 17th) at midnight at select locations.

Preview: F.E.A.R. 3

3 Comments 11 May 2011

Naming a video game F.E.A.R. sets the bar high immediately. At the least, the game better be scary as hell. At the most, the game absorbs the titular noun to become the industry standard. And while more players appear to value the original over the sequel, it’s violently clear, this time around, that Day 1 Studios is doing everything in their power to scare the shit out of us.

Like bringing in John Carpenter (Escape from L.A., Big Trouble in Little China). Also of note, Rob Zombie produced a re-creation of Carpenter’s Halloween, and Rob Zombie is the exponential infinitive of scary shit. Continue Reading

Dead Island Trailer: Thank You Gears of War

8 Comments 06 March 2011

For anybody who has paid one iota of attention to gaming in the past five years, the original Gears of War trailer punched the gaming community in the collective cock by using Mad World performed by Gary Jules.  In all reality, Jules covered Tears for Fears better than we covered our man bits. Year In Review: What We Learned From 2010

1 Comment 30 December 2010

2010 was a great year in gaming.  For Americans, it showed that the video game industry can thrive even during tough economic times.  For story buffs, we were blessed with a breakout year from Bioware.  FPS loyalists saw more action from Bungie and Call of Duty.

What did we learn though?  We see the trends, hell we even play them, but what did the last 365 days actually teach us about the industry?  Click below to read what permeated the collective braintrust at Glitchoris.com.

How To Break Up With Your Girlfriend (Or Boyfriend)…If You’re A Gamer

4 Comments 18 December 2010

Glitchoris wants you to be happy with everybody in your life; especially those closest to you.  Significant others are just that: significant!  You should be happy and thrilled to see your girlfriend open the door to your apartment.  Cell phone ringing in the next room?  I bet you have a special ringtone saved just for her.

But…life is not always like this.  Sometimes the inaudible sighs say more than our actual words.  Then comes the epiphany.  “Am I actually better off without them?”  That sucks.  It does.  It just kinda sucks.

Follow the advice below to set yourself up in the best position to let her down softly while keeping your integrity (and consoles). Continue Reading

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Preview

2 Comments 25 September 2010

What were you doing in 1987?   Were you watching Red Dawn on VHS?  Or were you cuffing your jeans and bedazzling your White Snake jean jacket? Probably neither, considering the majority of you probably hadn’t even reached sperm phase yet.  I know you most definitely were not on Glitchoris, because I was only five years old, and I had much better things to do at that age than blog: like hit on girls, beat Super Mario Bros for the umpteenth fucking time, and play a new game from Konami called, “Castlevania”.   Alright, so I wasn’t quite playing Nintendo at that age, but two years later I was, and loving it.   I actually remember watching my friend play as Simon Belmont for the first time, and the music in that game still creeps me out today.   It’s hard to believe it’s been twenty three years since Konami’s original hit store shelves, but you know what’s even tougher – that it’s newest effort at the series, Lords of Shadow, looks like it will finally be that Castlevania game that we’ve all been dreaming about.  Check out the trailer right here, then the link below for Glitchoris’ full preview.

Gears of War 3 Preview

3 Comments 11 July 2010

Maybe BP should try using a lightmass bomb to stop the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico?  Kidding aside, the Gulf scenario isn’t too far off from the problems still plaguing the fictional planet of Sera, where hordes of Locust Horde (like that?) are spilling out of the center of the planet like it’s cool, and the only solution to finally stop them won’t arrive until April 2011.  That being said, the spill on Sera might just be solved before the real one here on Earth!  Gears of War 3, which according to creators Epic Games will be the final edition to the series, is gearing up to put an emphatic explanation point on a trilogy that ultimately started as a diamond in the rough in the Xbox 360′s infancy.  Double tap the link below for what we know so far, what we’re hoping for, and the usual amount of sarcasm nestled in between.

Too Human 2 Could Use Some Crank Voltage

No Comments 30 June 2010

As if public speaking isn’t terrifying enough for people, many who stand up in front of a crowd will start off their speech or brief with easily the worst thing you can say to your audience. In the public speaking world, it’s called brief suicide, and I would argue that we’ve all done it at some point in our lives. Starting off a speech with, “I’m sorry you have to sit through this thing”, or, “I know this isn’t the best but …”, will immediately turn off your audience and force you to fight uphill to turn the crowd back in your favor. So WTF does this have to do with Too Human and Jason Statham, aka The Transporter up there? It starts with Silicon Knights, who after releasing Eternal Darkness for the GameCube back in the day (2002), announced a new upcoming “trilogy”, which is (3) different games for all my home-schoolers out there, called “Too Human”, starring a dude who ends up looking mysteriously like Mr. Statham (with a really girnormous, bloated head). By announcing that, Silicon Knights essentially committed game suicide, or at least threatened, because when Too Human finally hit shelves in 2008, it was all over.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior Ready for Inspection, Sir

No Comments 24 June 2010

Just under a week ago, I published the first of many “Marine Corps Reality Check” editorials in an effort to try and bridge the realism gap between the average war-gamer, and the actual warfighters on the ground that play Modern Warfare for real.  The inaugural topic dealt with snipers, and how video games that depict the sniper community to this point have come nowhere close to reality, even though they are always a blast to play.  Just this morning a new upcoming game caught my eye, Sniper: Ghost Warrior, which is slated for the 360 and PC and due out in just six short days from now on June 29th.  According to City Interactive, Sniper: Ghost Warrior’s publisher, realism is the name of the game.  Click below to see if we’ve got an integrity violator on our hands, and for a full (okay, half-full) preview.
