Dead Island Trailer: Thank You Gears of War

8 Comments 06 March 2011

For anybody who has paid one iota of attention to gaming in the past five years, the original Gears of War trailer punched the gaming community in the collective cock by using Mad World performed by Gary Jules.  In all reality, Jules covered Tears for Fears better than we covered our man bits.

Self-pity mixed with explosive munitions? Thank you sir – may I have another?  Epic launched a generation of emo-hating (if you don’t love the irony involved with this marketing, make a fist with your right hand, and insert into your anus), quasi-passive-aggressive teen-to-thirtysomethings into the forefront of FPS culture.  If you think much has changed in the past five years of trailers, refresh yourself.

This trailer accomplished for gaming what Sublime did for every high school across America in the late 90′s – it gave us something to all come together around.  Nobody dared insult the music selection in either case.

Then recently, a friend and colleague brought to my attention the trailer for Dead Island. Being in a rush, I asked him how long it took to watch, and he said three minutes.  I told him he had thirty seconds.  He laughed a laugh only someone can pull off when they know something you don’t know.  I know that laugh too, I teach for God’s sake.  I use it everyday. Especially when parents call.

So I watched it.  Three minutes later he just looked at me.  Actually he was kind of pissed I took the full three minutes, but that’s beside the point.  What does matter is that this trailer had no fucking chance of being birthed had Epic not pulled the trigger (pun intended) on the Gears of War music.

I’m not one to say a game is great before it releases, but Glitchoris is waiting for this one. While it may not hit shelves until this fall, the trailer hits the nail on the zombie.

Score performed by Giles Lamb and may be found on Itunes.

Didn’t think before I hit the submit button but I was gonna put after the woot this—>. Never did see the trailer for gears of wars. I don’t got x-box so it’s expected but I am informed of alot of that stuff now but wow, I really did like that trailer for Gears and I really wished I got to experience it. I am really fond when a trailer comes along with a pun like that and become attached instantly its just a shame that as I look at my video game library right behind me, I can’t find a single game that used that idea in the trailer.

I am gonna type this here juust incase i forget to let you know later. the whole ordeal with the confiscation of the ps3 was just happening in the Netherlands but that area is the major gateway for the entire importation of ps3s to europe but the netherlands government said that that punishment was too harsh for the terms of the case file and so all ps3s are realeased again (300000 were confiscated) but that still doesn’t mean that Sony has won against LG, the case is still going to be heard more later

I’m trying real hard not to get too geeked for this release. Crysis 2 is a fucking let down. Now, I’m no Crytek junkie, but t’was disappointing to say the least.

Still, can’t wait for this to hit my console.

It kinda makes me sad that I can’t find more vg scores for sale. I think it’d be cool if the developers through in the music to download for free but I’d be willing to pay for the songs depending on how they make me feel and what I can associate them with. This one for instance, it is sad and I can associate with a struggle and I can actually picture myself in their shoes being with my family and watching the few loved ones around me being killed. Other ones, the song that was being played in the original Portal 2 trailer or even the one that is played right before the credits (Portal 2 is still pretty fresh in my mind). I’m pretty sure there was some really good Heavy Rain music I liked. I don’t know, now that I’m actually trying to list vg music that I wish I could download, I’m also realizing that vg need to get better with music and I really stress Need because I think that is one area that helps us to connect emotionally with the game weither it’s great battle, life or death, or extreme turning point in the story, or simply just for fun, it could really help. Another thing, Crysis, I like the graphics, I really liked it at the beginning, it’s a different kind of shooter I suppose but I’d rather play it than some other shooter that is something that we have already seen. Me and shooters though, there has to be something unique about them for me to like them and I meen end of the world or aliens, zombies, idk but it can’t be military crap cause that bores me. Last thing is… crap I forgot what I wanted to say but whatever, I’m sure I’ll think of it later.
