Review: Dragon Age 2

4 Comments 29 March 2011

Can’t we get past all this mage against templar business?  No?  Ok, well then let’s just blow the whole place to hell.

Glitchoris BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front)

Like every great band that evolves with age, we have DA2 that has morphed into a tighter DNA strain.  Except, some of the content squeezed out by the sequel is what left us in awe in Origins.  However, Bioware’s DA2 is clearly the best story so far this year, especially in the Fantasy-RPG genre.  Buy it, play it, and exploit it in later comparisons.  Think of the Dragon Age series as Martin Scorsese films: it might take a while to win Game of the Year, but each installment is going to be a blockbuster in its own right. Dragon Age 2 Mid-Game Thoughts

1 Comment 28 March 2011

DA2 is your ex-girlfriend’s hot roommate who you just bumped into at the neighborhood Starbucks.  You talk a little bit, realize there’s a spark, then two nights later you are making out on your couch.  Even if you really liked your ex-girlfriend when you were together, you somehow forgot what it’s like to be with a good kisser.  Oh, and the night is not over yet…

Dragon Age 2 Initial Thoughts

Prepare the blood splatters!  Seriously.  Kill a few darkspawn and apparently everybody looks like they stood shopside at a meat grinder.  But that’s ok – because that’s why we play Dragon Age.  It’s not all about the glory; sometimes it’s about the mass amount of blood flying through the air.  How it doesn’t annoy the characters is beyond me – I think I’d be continually wiping the blood out of my eyes.

Year In Review: What We Learned From 2010

1 Comment 30 December 2010

2010 was a great year in gaming.  For Americans, it showed that the video game industry can thrive even during tough economic times.  For story buffs, we were blessed with a breakout year from Bioware.  FPS loyalists saw more action from Bungie and Call of Duty.

What did we learn though?  We see the trends, hell we even play them, but what did the last 365 days actually teach us about the industry?  Click below to read what permeated the collective braintrust at Glitchoris.com.

Medal of Honor Initial Thoughts

This game is fun.  Pure, no-scope-from-100-feet-away, fun.

It’s Been A Hard Day’s Night

We at Glitchoris, at the moment, work through full time jobs away from this site.  And, when we are not at our jobs, we both adhere to a strict regiment of exercise.  Exercise to us is srs bzns.  Throw in the volunteer work, like rescuing orphans from burning buildings or helping a student with an essay after school, and the average workday only has so many hours to play the game, ruminate on its strengths and hopefully not-so-apparent weaknesses, and write the review.  After showering and getting so fresh and so clean, it’s really important that we don’t sit down and play a shitty game.

Second Opinion: Dragon Age: Origins Review

4 Comments 14 November 2010

If you want the most bang for your buck while not playing multiplayer, Dragon Age: Origins can offer you this.  About 10 hours in, I understood the thrust of the game: unite the races against the upcoming Blight: the undead assholes trying to annihilate the world.  About 20 hours in, I understood there was a lot left to play.  30 hours in, I broke apartment to get some fresh air.  At 37 hours and 32 minutes, I finally killed the damn mother dragon.

Dragon Age: Origins Mid-Game Thoughts

1 Comment 23 September 2010

Role playing games are not meant to be short. If they were, they wouldn’t be any fun because you wouldn’t get much sense of accomplishment after beating one. Without using any actual data, or empirical evidence to back up this coming sentence up, I would bet that the average RPG completion time from this current generation of gaming, and even the last one as well, sits lazily around 25 hours per game. Maybe even as low as 20 hours. Now while this is most definitely a post for another day (and ideally with some actual fucking research, and not Ron Burgundy’s, “It’s science”), I would have to give the credit to the rise of action/FPS RPGs, and development and publishing companies trending towards the more casual gamer. Well gentlemen (c’mon, like any females actually willingly read this site), Dragon Age: Origins is not meant for the casual gamer. Hit the link below for the detailage.

Dragon Age: Origins Initial Thoughts

1 Comment 21 September 2010

Ten years ago an up and coming Canadian (take off, eh!) development company released a sequel to what at the time, was a truly epic, fantasy role playing series called Baldur’s Gate.  Hailed as one of the best role playing game series of all time by many, and THE best when it comes to the PC gaming industry, it proved that Bioware could make one helluva RPG, ultimately setting the stage for the onslaught of ridiculously stellar titles that we’ve seen since in KOTOR, Jade Empire, and most recently the Mass Effect series.  Outside of Neverwinter Nights, it has been nearly a decade since Bioware has pumped out a new fantasy epic, and to get straight to the point, it was bloody worth it.  No I am not British, and no I did not recently acquire a British accent; you’ll get my pun soon enough, lad.  Okay that was an intentional Irish accent, sorry.  Hit the link below for my initial thoughts on Dragon Age: Origins!
