This Is What Happens When People Drop The Ball: Glitch Review: Black Ops

19 Comments 23 January 2011

Notice the ominous word Glitch before the titular word Review.  Titular is a conjugation of the word title you sycophantic opportunists.

So I load up Call of Duty: Black Ops for m’360, play the first thirty minutes, then realize this jackass that I’m supposed to be protecting will not move forward.  He just kind of stands there.  So I blow some more people up.  Still nothing.  Then I just backtrack and kill everything that moves (including the prison inmates fighting with me).  Nada.

So I Google The Phrase, “Protect Reznov”

Google is already sifting through the phrase before I’m done typing, and the most popular search results spawn the phrases “protect reznov bug” and “protect reznov glitch.”  Awesome.  Glad I’m not the only one.

I search some forums, and, not before too long, it seems the only success people have had is to save and quit and then reload.  Ok.  I’m sold.  So I save and quit, reload, and nothing.  Reznov ain’t moving.

I Go Back To The Forums

Gamefaqs, while usually reliable, is not helping much.  But that’s ok – it’s just one site.  I try a few more, and one guy recommends that I restart the level.  At this point, restarting the level is like dreaming about waking up in the morning, eating breakfast, watching Sportscenter, showering, heading out the door, and then waking up realizing you just dreamed your morning routine.  It blows and does not make me want to do it again.

But I do it again.  I restart the level.  I get back to the point where Reznov is to use the flamethrower to torch some prison workers, but he still just stands there.

*Sigh*

I smack my lips a few times, lean back, and stare into the distance.

Power Off

I’m not saying Black Ops is a bad game – I had quite fun up until Reznov gave me the finger.  I’m not saying it’s not innovative and stimulating – the game just would not let me in far enough to make that decision.  What I am saying, however, is that this shit needs to be fixed before release.  Some bugs are unforeseeable, but when the npc needed to push the game forward glitches, that’s not a newbie mistake.  That’s a team dropping the ball.

*Extends Arm And Makes Motion Of Dropping A Ball*

Call of Duty has to be better than this.  These kind of mistakes are not supposed to interrupt the game on this level.  I’m a fan of the series.  I bought World at War to play online with certain friends because if we didn’t play together, we may not talk any other times.  But we have to hold CoD to a higher standard.

yea… im still on the call of duty boycott so I can’t help you there… short comment coming from me, i know lol, not much to say other than boycott

  2. voporak5 says:

i repent to say im actualy on the 90% of games produced by activision+call of duty boycott…

I’m always cautious of situations when seemingly everybody says the same thing. Because of people’s tendencies to be pussies and not say what they think, especially in close social quarters, most games get more hype than is necessary. Now I repeat, I did not finish this game because I couldn’t get past the glitch. Although I recognize the humorous irony considering my site is a combination of glitch and clitoris, I still think that this glitch shows a failure on more than one level.

I don’t think these guys are bad people, or that overall, their product sucks. They have put out some amazing games. But Black Ops has failed me.

I’m confused as to where you are directing that comment, is that going against what I said or helping to fuel it? Just curious I raed it twice and couldn’t figure out haha. I will explain why I am on the boycott. I was ok with activision games before but it started to seem as they aquired more developing partners and began investing in so many projects, it seemed that the games began to seem rushed through. Now I apologize if I do not know how long their games that they invested are worked on for because it should take at least 1-2 years for a game to be good or at the minimal, half way decent. From what was going on with Guitar hero, it portrayed to me that they were making sure there games were put out the next year. That’s when I started looking at the games I did play and really try to think about them and get passed the whole I paid for it so of course it’s awesome ordeal. Let’s take Prototype for instance, I bought it thought it was awesome. Now that I look at it, its a decent game. I’ve heard comments that it is exactly Ultimate Spider-Man, there is an ok achievement system to help you rack up more spending points (they really do get annoying after playing the same type of mini-game over and over). Graphics are good for when it was released I suppose. Overall though, the game is ok. If I think about it now I think it was fun but nothing that really wanted me to beg for more although there was the open ending to it. Then there was the entire think with Infinity Ward, I wasn’t going to get Call of Duty because I never got into that and then out of the blue, everyone and I mean EVERYONE started playing MW1,2, and World at War. Another thing is that they are so determined to get 1 CoD game out every year that they have different developers working on different iterations of the game. There’s a benefit that it’s open to originality and easier to design new ideas but, the game doesn’t go consistent. What I hate is that they put everything into the multiplayer and that’s where I get going is the multiplayer. It’s cool if you like video games and like playing multiplayer but don’t go buy an X-Box or PS3 just to play Call of Duty multiplayer. 1. try the story, 2. try other games. I try to stress this but, it ticks me off so. Maaaaasssiiive comment as I listen to music from Elder Scrolls 4, oh wait, Tebo hasn’t played it… That’s cool you are busy as well as I. Also about Activision is that they seem to rub me the wrong way. I understand that they are a publisher because they want to make the money from the games that they are publishing but it also seems that that’s the only reason they are doing it. If it were otherwise, they would compress their load of game investments and actually work more with their partners to create a great game rather than a 6/10 or even 7/10 or 10/10 if it’s Call of Duty (even though it shouldn’t be and sorry Call of Duy developers, it’s a good game but you guys are KILLING the series). Well, that’s my rant for today with the I guess regular event of me going off onto another tangent about CoD.

    woooooh, big comment

When I said 1-2 years to be decent i ment to put 1 1/2 to 2 years

Alright I just Redboxed this game. I did not play multiplayer, but if its anything like world at war i imagine its pretty par for the course. I did not have the issues with Resnov getting stuck, but I really dislike this game. First of all the story line seems like it was written on the back of a bar napkin. It was hard to believe that one CIA agent could have been involved in all that, and then the personality disorder was like an “it was all a dream” moment. What a shit game. Tetrarch makes shit Modern Warefare games. This game is shit. Shitty game.

  8. Tebo says:

    Bump ^

  9. voporak5 says:

I got nothing against Treyarch, I just got something Call of Duty in general and its that they are pumping these things out every year and there is not much difference between 2 games. If you like forking up $60 for a game that is pretty much like one you have already, then great good for you I could care less but if you want something new (like me) stay away.

  10. BWIK94 says:

what system did the glitch happen on?

  11. voporak5 says:

Alright, I am going to answer this as unbiased as I possibly can. My brothers have it, I believe they beat single player soo… it’s either a bug on all disks or just a bug from converting the code to ps3 format but i’m going to go with the bug across all systems

  12. voporak5 says:

This is getting to be ridiculous, stupid hackers (apparently Anonymous claims it isn’t them but I don’t know…) have forced Sony to shut down the network for a few days and I cant play Portal online now. This is BS

  13. Tebo says:

I’ll dig some more to find out about the PSN shutdown. Did some reading this weekend, and it seems like Sony is struggling tagging the problem’s source.

I’ll try to make that the next post.

  14. voporak5 says:

hehe beat ya to it lol. suppooooooosedly the service is supposed to resume tomorrow and suppooooooooosedly they had to rebuild EVERYTHING buut idk, we’ll see, just want to play co-op online again

  15. voporak5 says:

This is ridiculous, 75 million people’s identity are stolen. I have nothing more to say about the matter…

  16. Tebo says:

I’ve always supported Sony, especially when Microsoft and Nintendo were handing them there ass for the better part of the last decade. However, this is ridiculous. Their entire user base just got stolen. That shows failure that multiple levels of their corporate infrastructure.

They better get organized and quick because if they don’t reopen waving the white flag to everybody who got proper fucked proper, Sony is going to go the way of Sega.

  17. voporak5 says:

I heard Nintendo is the next target

  18. voporak5 says:

Now there is a theory that the entire thing was an inside job, do I believe it? only when I see it in actual news but apparently 205 employees were fired on March 31st (same day Sony settled wtih Geohot) and 2 weeks later (length of pink slip) the network was hacked. Any employee can access the physical servers too so long as they show an ID badge so we will see…
